Alex and Julie studio shoot

I had booked the studio to do light drawing with two of my friends, the bellow contact sheets are of the shoot: 

At first i was unsure how to use the canon because i like to use Nikon so the inital images are of just one stroke of the light, but during the shoot i  figured out finally how to prolong the shutter so i could finally record the light drawings in motion.
I have annotated the contact sheets and the images with the red circle around the image, are my favorite images.

Patrick Rochon

I have chosen to look at Patrick Rochon as i am instantly drawn to his portrait work.
It has occurred to me that Rochon probably used a projector to illuminate the models faces.

I like the multiple exposures of the face within this one image, but the colours are just a little confusing,as i see the blue as calm, the orangery red as danger and the green as calming again, its a little bit confusing having all the colours within one image.

I am instantly drawn to this image, i get the idea of chaos i like the direction of the eye line.I also like the use of red colours. the model's face reminds me of a brain scan result, like the line going across his face from his eye sort of reminds me of a nerve ending in the brain.

Aurora Crowley

I have chosen to look at Aurora Crowley because:
I like the colours used within all his images, i am instantly drawn to the bellow images for various reasons explained bellow.

I am instantly drawn to this image to the right as the model looks almost bionic and like a cyborg something you would expect to see in a si-fi film, i'm not entirely sure how Crowley managed to produce these light drawings but i am very impressed, i like the minor detailed red dot in the right eye of the model it really adds to the effect,and there is a slight black mark going down the right of the face, at first it looked like a microphone from a headset but from closer examination i'm not too sure, but it still again adds to the image.

I like the colours in this image there is no detail lost within the image. You are still able to see the detail within the face, i also like the strobes along the legs, also the directions of the lights are varied but it does not look rushed and it does not effect the quality of the image. The use of the red light on the head and mouth instantly catch my eye, and i'm unsure if this was intended but i get a feeling of anger,maybe hurtful words have been said that hurt the feelings of the model? that is how i am interpenetrating the image overall.

Proposal

Why I choose to explore light drawings:

In the past I have focused on documentary/portraiture, I have always been interested in disability and mental health issues, but I wanted to step away from portraiture and delve into something more challenging. In a different manner than I am used to by using and exploring the qualities of light drawings.

Initially I photographed in the studio, just capturing light drawings that represent a state of mind. Where I could I tried to get people with disability and mental health issues. To create the light drawing voice themselves anonymously

So in the end I had light drawing that represented a personality.

In the bellow two images, I asked the model to draw how he felt , he first started out by drawing devil horns and the triple six’s, after having some more time he then took another image of angel wings. These two collected images represent the way in which people with disabilities moods change, from one moment of being devilish to being so gentle and angelic like

I feel I can develop this in to a project further, where it allows people to express their inner feeling through the medium of light drawings and not be visually recognised.I have chosen to use lights as when information is received in the nerve ending in the brain there is a little spark. And also there is always light no matter how dark your situation is.

With the above stickman image, I would like to re shoot this and instead have two stick people. From the image I get the idea of loneliness from the image,as you can only see the stickman reaching out to nothing.

Introduction

Introduction:

For this assignment  i will be entering the melbourne festival emerging talent award competition: 

The theme is Expanding horizons, we can take it in which ever way we wish, wether this is communicational ( i.e society and issues) or a more artistic format.

We need to write a proposal of our ideas and include previous work and sketches that will then need to be submitted by 14th march 2014. i will then be judged on my proposal for the shortlist process and if i am sucsessful i will be invited for a exhabition on the 12th and 13th of september

The images must meet the following:
2 dimensional, suitable for hanging and a maximum of 2 meters in any dimension
In the medium of pain,pastel,pencil,textile,printmaking,photography or mixed media
It is original work, safe for hanging and meets the health and safety requirements and is not offensive
